Difficult task
By Doug Erlandson
I have often thought that one of the most difficult tasks that a biblical scholar must face is trying to write a one-volume commentary on several books of the Bible. This is especially true when the only obvious linkage is that they are found consecutively in our English Bible. Douglas Stuart appears to have done an excellent job of providing a scholarly but readable and lively commentary on the books of Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, and Jonah. Despite the fact that he has tackled five books that have divergent (although not entirely unrelated) themes and different settings, Stuart has provided us with commentaries on each of these books that are insightful and scholarly. Needless to say, more space is given to the longer books (Hosea covers approximately 220 pages of text versus just 21 for Obadiah), but none receives short shrift.

The introductory material to each of these prophets is enlightening, and while not extremely detailed, provides the reader with a decent amount of background material. The more technical matters regarding the Hebrew text are generally set apart in the "Notes" section that follows immediately upon the English translation of a passage, and any Hebrew in the commentary section itself is accompanied by an English translation, meaning that a working knowledge of Hebrew is not necessary for fully benefitting from the commentary. The commentary section (as well as the introductions) provides not just interpretation of the text but, where important, crucial background information regarding geography, culture, societal practices, and the like. (For example, in the commentary on Amos there is a significant amount of material that enables us to better understand the nature of the practices that Amos is condemning.)

I highly recommend this commentary to anyone seeking to gain a greater knowledge of one or more of these five books.

Excellent commentary!
By Donald Liles
This is one of the best commentaries you could buy for these minor prophets. Douglas Stuart does an excellent job expositing the texts of each book. I bought this mainly for Hosea, but have been thankful to have excellent evangelical scholarship applied to Joel and Jonah as well. I highly recommend this for your library.

Excellent commentary on five of the Minor Prophets
By Doug Erlandson
One of the most difficult tasks a biblical scholar faces is trying to write a one-volume commentary on several books of the Bible, especially when the only obvious linkage is that they are found consecutively in our English Bible. The Secret of Perfect Vision: How You Can Prevent or Reverse Nearsightedness, by David De Angelis

Author David De Angelis’s search for a cure for nearsightedness was both professional and personal, since he suffered from the disease himself. An expert in muscular work dynamics, he discovered through extensive testing and an immersion in decades of scientific studies that working the extrinsic ocular muscles could preserve sight and re-educate the eyes toward better vision. He came to understand the importance of retinal defocus for transforming ocular refractive status. In this book, the author shares both the science and the “secret”–progressive retinal defocus technique–of how he was able to reverse his own myopia. The system’s efficacy, he says, comes from the fact that it directly intervenes with the causes that generate myopia onset and development (overaccommodative/near-point stress). When adequately stimulated by the simple exercises presented in the book, ocular refractive capability leads to gradual strengthening of focusing capability and gradual decreasing of refractive error. Written in straightforward language, and featuring an extensive section on the scientific research in this field, The Secret of Perfect Vision offers a proven program of healing to the millions of people afflicted with this condition.

Review
“The body is self-healing. This book provides a roadmap for recovering that miraculous power. As an optometrist and vision scientist I can attest to the effectiveness of this work.”—Jacob Liberman, OD, PhD, author of Light: Medicine of the Future, Take Off Your Glasses and See, and Wisdom from an Empty Mind“Vision is a complex, mysterious, and marvelous process that is still not fully understood, even by those in the scientific and medical communities. I welcome David De Angelis’s contributions to furthering this understanding. The fact that his approach has worked for him is further proof that each of us has the power to regain better vision and sharp focus—a message I’ve been advocating for the last thirty years.”—Martin Sussman, president and founder of Cambridge Institute for Better Vision and author of The Program for Better Vision; www.bettervision.com

About the Author
David De Angelis received his degree in law at La Sapienza University in Rome and was heading toward a career in forensics when he became interested in learning more about the body’s development and psycho-bodily integration in the wake of muscular rehabilitation techniques and bioenergetics. Does Not Work
By darkprince117
Maybe it is just my eyes, but I really gave this a chance. I tried everything in here, starting from the binocular vision exercises, to the blur point exercises, but apart from making my eyes more mobile, these do not aid in improving my vision at all.

And no, this was no fault in my discipline or rest periods. I followed everything perfectly for 2 years, no gaps, no excessive exercise, and definitely no slacking off, but I saw absolutely no improvements. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, and if so, is there a way I can talk to someone about this? I am really saddened that no one else appears to be experiencing problems with this regimen but me.

I would love nothing more than to remove my glasses but it seems that it's pretty much impossible at this point.

Very good, but sometimes difficult to understand.
By Diana Truchanowicz
It's a great book which tells you all about myopia and eye exercises that can strengthen your eye muscles to combat myopia. The one major drawback is that it's written in a pretty ambiguous way, sometimes it's difficult to follow or understand what and how exactly you need to do to perform the exercises. It may be because of the poor translation from Italian. It's not entirely clear how to go about some exercises as in different parts of the book you can find contradictory information. Despite this, I still think it's a MUST read for anyone suffering even from minor myopia because it uncovers lies that we are constantly being told by eye specialists and the whole "you need stronger glasses" business, which in fact should be the opposite. I strongly recommend reading this book.

I have tried the method before buying this book after reading the reviews. But I regretted buying the book because after a long time applying the concepts on the book from the website promoted by the author and Getting stronger - improve your vision blog, I don't see any positive improvement, only that my eyes are getting more tired

From School Library Journal
Gr 4–7—The epic trilogy comes to a satisfying end in this last installment. Readers will be thrilled to step back into DiTerlizzi's well-realized and intricately detailed world as Eva Nine and her friends try to save their planet.

From Booklist
In this conclusion to DiTerlizzi’s much-loved series, Eva Nine is on the run, branded a traitor and a spy. The humans and aliens who both populate the magnificently lush planet, home to upside-down birds and immense water bears, are now at odds, and Eva is the only one with the skills to reason with each species. Like Middle Earth and Oz, Orbona is packed with creatures and places with proper names in unfamiliar languages, and although there are a few stabs at exposition, readers will more fully appreciate the epic sweep of this complicated story if they read the books in order. Of particular interest is Eva’s development into a young woman of unwavering compassion and courage, even in the face of betrayal, loss, and injury. DiTerlizzi’s beautiful illustrations are worth the price of admission, as usual, and they do much to help the reader distinguish among the plethora of strange creatures. WondLa fans will be sad to see it all end, and, even with some uneven pacing, they’ll be satisfied with the result. Grades 5-8. --Paula Willey

Well done conclusion to this series.
By Karissa Eckert
This was the third and final book in the Search for WondLa series by DiTerlizzi. It was a well done conclusion to this series, although it was also my least favorite book in this series. It just lacked the wonder and adventure of the first two books and was more about politics and war.

Eva Nine is in hiding with Haley in the forest. She is worried about luring the evil Lorac to her companions and fearful of anyone else dying because of her actions. When Haley finally convinces her that hiding is cowardly, Eva ventures back into the fray. She ends up seeking out help from the only place she can and then speaking to the Queen herself.

Eva has changed a lot over the series. This book starts with her hiding from her obligations out of fear for those around her. However she finally steps up to accept her responsibility and ends up becoming an admirable heroine. This book is Eva’s big delve into politics, she is dealing with a number of different parties who are all lying (or at least telling their own version) of the truth. I honestly felt a bit sad that she had to go from the excited and adventurous girl in the first book to this scared girl weighed down by all these responsibilities...but I guess it’s all part of growing up.

I was a little disappointed that Rovee wasn’t in the story more, he is in there some towards the end but is absent for the beginning. I missed a lot of Eva’s friends in the beginning of the book.

This book is a bit slower in pace than the previous books as well. The story wraps up nicely. DiTerlizzi includes an Epilogue and then a few sections that occur 100, 200, and 300 years later. These sections were kind of interesting and let us see what Eva Nine’s world developed into. However, aside from being somewhat amusing they didn’t add a lot to the story.

I continue to enjoy the beautiful illustrations throughout and loved how the story had both humor and heart.

Overall this was a well done conclusion to this series. I enjoyed the beautiful illustration and all the unique characters. The story was slower in this book than in the previous two. Eva has grown up and there wasn’t as much wonder and adventure in this book, she is dealing more with deceit and politics. Everything ties up nicely and overall I was very pleased with this series. I would recommend to middle grade and older readers who love reading about adventure and science fiction. What really sets this book apart is the beautiful illustrations and the way the book is laid out.

A Worthy Conclusion
By S. Johnson
The Battle for WondLa is the final piece in a three-book puzzle. When The Search for WondLa first appeared, my entire family was instantly hooked. Delightful, vibrant characters, a stunningly vivid world, and wholly original plot make DiTerlizzi's trilogy a must-read for any lover of fantasy. -actually, I take that back. I believe that anyone- despite age or genre preferences- would fall in love with the WondLa books. The characters are simply so REAL. They have wonderful flaws as well as wonderful strengths. They love. They are betrayed. They fight, they run; they win, they lose. Ultimately, friendship, loyalty and good emerge triumphant, and although I hated having to say goodbye to this universe, I was satisfied. DiTerlizzi manages to wrap up all loose ends, yet leave enough open so that the story never truly ends. You are not left wondering what will happen to the beloved characters, but you find yourself *imagining* what will, which is a drastic difference. (plus Tony DiTerlizzi's illustrations- gorgeous. whimsical. perfect. I often flip through the books simply for the joy of looking at the pictures.)

So, if you enjoyed the first books, if you enjoy a good fantasy romp, if you seek adventure, if you long for a tale of sweeping discovery, if you want to rediscover the joy of a good, satisfying fiction, (ultimately- if you breathe) -- read this book, read this entire trilogy.

I promise that you will not be disappointed.
