I have to use this book as a reference book because it is really full of unusual and useful techniques to improve any visual defects.
I bought it to help my sister because she is going blind with an incurable disease called retinitis pigmentosa. I am so impressed with the practices that I must incorporate them into my daily life and over time I am sure I will not need glasses. It is a book with so many helpful hints that I skipped the practices on nearsightedness since my problem is farsightedness and my friend told me to give him the pointers on nearsightedness. I guess I shouldn't skip around to cover just my personal problems, but be aware that others need help, too. Wish I had the expertise of Mantak Chia. Maybe one day I will study under him in Thailand. Wow! He is truely a master at healing the human body of its ills. You will not be disappointed with this book. Great read!

This is a very specialized book by author Sean Snapp and I feel lucky to have found it as I am studying precisely this sort of material in school at the moment and was tasked with both finding some fresh information on the subject and being able to discuss the different supply planning methods in more detail. This is, hands down, the best guide to supply planning methods and reorder points planning that I have found and Snapp does a wonderful job of dissecting some of the most widely used software applications in the field. I am a visual person and there are some great graphics throughout that helped to illustrate his points about the different methods. A very useful reference for me and my colleagues.

This is the debut novel by S.W. Andersen. Having been raised by her mother, a strong female character in her own right, she has always been attracted to stories that depicted independent, capable, determined women. She has spent a large part of her life around horses and rodeos and has always had an affinity for the cowgirl lifestyle. Her love of the mountains and westerns were the driving forces behind her first novel. When she isn’t working, she enjoys outdoor activities and traveling with her wife, Dianna. A Riveting Read!

Somewhere Between Love and Justice is the debut novel by S.W. Anderson. It is described by the author as a “lesbian western,” set in the 1890s. There is lots of action, suspense, and yes, sex.
Sarah Sawyer is the hero in this story-- if you can call a young woman with murder on her mind a “hero.” She is on a mission to avenge the brutal murder of her parents ten years ago, by tracking down the remaining members of the notorious O’Shea gang, and ridding society of their lowly existence. There’s a bit of a love triangle between Sarah and Jessie, who’s a sheriff’s marshall, and the beautiful Jo, a saloon owner. It’s Jo who is really the love of Sarah’s life… if only Sarah could let herself the gift of that love, as she believes that she is not a good person, and is basically “damaged goods.” The one criticism I have of this story is that Sarah’s low self esteem and sense of unworthiness gets tiresome when repeated in chapter after chapter. Other than that, Somewhere Between Love and Justice is riveting, descriptive, and thrilling. There are a couple of interesting plot twists towards the end of the story, which reveal how Sarah’s, Jessie’s and Jo’s pasts are shockingly intertwined. I hope to read more of Ms. Anderson’s work in the future!

First off let me say...WOW!!! This book was really, really, really good. I'm not one for time pieces because same sex romance have to always be strictly hidden and always make me cringe because something bad is going to happen because of it but in this one, it takes place in the wild west with same sex romance a norm...and it made it all the better. This book has everything a reader could want, from romance, to angst, to true love, and fate. You have to read this book...there is no way to be disappointed in it

Best roadtripping read of this summer!

The book takes you on this western journey filled with horses, cowgirl boots, gunslinging Stetson wearing beautiful hardcore cowgirls of the west. I loved how Sarah is portrayed as perfection personified yet you see cracks and flaws that make her human. Her passion and her willingness to risk her heart for Jo makes you have faith in love. May we all find a lover like Jo and someone worth loving like Sarah in our lives. Absolutely a riveting read. UNPUTDOWNABLE.

Timely Advice

This is an easy to read book with important information for anyone wanting to establish a sound financial foundation. I will recommend this book to my adult children in particular. I like that the book stresses personal responsibility in the financial choices we make, both as indivduals and as a society. While not always an easy tenet to follow, this book is a great reminder for us to stay on that path.

Standing with a group.

We have a group of us that like to stand around the pulpit to sing and the large print is a hit among the 30 plus age group. The teens that sing either don't need it or prefer to have their own hymnal. I was hoping the print would be larger but it is a good improvement over the regular print. We are playing instruments and that pushes us away from the hymnal to keep from hitting one another with the instruments, so we are a bit far away from the hymnal. The hymnal seems sturdy enough with gentle use it should last years. The spiral binding is nice to have the pages lay out and stay without holding, but it makes it easier for the pages to get torn out with use and accidental roughness.

With profound insight, Einstein blended ideas from kinetic theory and classical hydrodynamics to derive an equation for the mean free path of such particles as a function of the time, which Perrin confirmed experimentally. The fifth paper, A New Determination of Molecular Dimensions, was Einstein's doctoral dissertation, and remains among his most cited articles. It shows how to calculate Avogadro's number and the size of molecules.

Finally, the real thing; not just inaccurate verbal metaphor

I am a nonscientist, general reader, but have read many popular accounts of special relativity. I have always felt shortchanged, though, just at the point where things get most interesting. I think that is because the real physics does lie in the equations, and verbal metaphors fall short. For me, here, for the first time, I see where the science is: just beyond the metaphors. Although I do not follow all the math by any means, so it is partly like listening to a foreign language, I recognized enough of the concepts to get a glimmer: and it is stunning. Here is Einstein himself, deriving E=mc2 in paper 4; so briefly, so lucidly (although another reader from California seems to have missed it). Paper 3 on special relativity is, even to this nonscientist, dazzling.

As a retired physicist I have taken great interest in the history of science, especially the times around the turn of the twentieth century when so many new ideas were put forward which have the basis of quantum mechanics and our current thinking from cosmology to quarks. This little volume is recommended either for bedtime reading or more serious study. The personal history reveals aspects previously unknown to me and the five papers themselves, in their original form, demonstrate Einstein's wonderful insightfulness and ability to make use of every aspect of a problem. Tney are a bit heavy going in themselves, and the mathematics is not for everyone, but what else would one expect from a distillation of so much into so relatively few words. I recommend this book to both the scintist and the layman who seeks a better understanding of these momentous mental leaps.

This book is a compilation of five important papers including Albert Einstein's dissertation, all published in Annalen der Physik the year 1905. The papers are;

(1) "A new determination of molecular dimensions". Which is Einstein's dissertation.

(2) On the motion of Small particles Suspended in Liquids at Rest Required by the Molecular-Kinetic Theory of Heat. This is what is referred to as Brownian Motion.

(3) On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies. This is what is referred to as the special theory of relativity. This paper is to some degree a synthesis of work done by H.A. Lorentz and Henri Poincare, which is common in science (and Lorentz is given his fair due).

(4) Does the Inertia of a Body Depend on Its Energy Content? This is essentially E = mc� and is an extension of the aforementioned paper.

(5) On a heuristic Point of View Concerning the Production and Transformation of Light. This is his paper on the photo electric effect and the quantum hypothesis. This is what Einstein got his Nobel price for. However, both (2) and (3) above are often considered to be Nobel Prize work.

The way I see it, these papers are of great historical value and it is awesome to be able to read the originals. However, I do not recommend this book as a good introduction to any of this material. As an engineering physics student I encountered most of the content of these papers in a more complete and clearer format. For example, the special theory of relativity is explained better in many text books on physics. Remember these papers are research papers not educational texts. That does not mean that I endorse the many non-mathematical popularizations of the topic that often end up misleading the reader. I should add, however, that in many texts on the special theory of relativity its foundation in electrodynamics is lost or downplayed, so reading the original will remind the student where it really came from.

I was surprised to see how the formula K0 - K1 = Lv�/ (2V�) was derived. This formula states the change in the kinetic energy of a body emitting radiation with energy L/2 in each direction. An implicit approximation (K = mv�/2, classic kinetic energy) was cancelled out by a MacLaurin/Taylor expansion and a corresponding approximation (when dropping terms). This is not wrong, and the proof is still valid, but it seems unnecessary to use approximations from classical mechanics when it is just as easy to make do without them. In any case from this formula it is concluded that when a body that emits the energy L in the form of radiation, then its mass decreases by L/V�, or E = mc� ("V" is "c" plus classic formula above).

However, the formula E = mc� can be easily derived directly from the special theory of relativity without any approximation, which he did at a later date. You integrate E = F S (where S is distance) using the relativistic formulas for force and mass. In any case the paper proves the genial insight that "that the mass of a body is a measure of its energy content", which is worth perhaps yet another Nobel Prize. It is also short paper.

I can add that Einstein's opus magnum, the general theory of relativity, came much later 1915/1916. Some other huge achievements were "stimulated emission" the principle behind the laser, Bose-Einstein statistics, and relativistic cosmology. In addition he also did the following, critical opalescence, the geometrization of physics, unified field theory, the EPR paradox, the Einstein refrigerator, a refrigerator without any moving parts, and much more. So 1905 was a very good start, a miracle year, but still just the beginning.

Anyway, reading the originals is thrilling. It is recommended reading to anyone who is literate in physics, and also recommended to anyone who would like to have these master pieces in his library.

I don't even know where to begin with Zoomigurumi with a critque. I am so happy with this purchase. The time spent and design is very evident in the pictures and patterns. I love this book! The projects have so much personality -- I was going to say "cute" here but you can already see by the cover photo that they are wonderful. Excellent photos and directions. I am so pleased to have added this book to my library.

Some are cute, but not many. Maybe it's the clothes on the hippos/reindeer. Just don't find them as cute as I thought based on the cover. haha, don't judge a book by its cover. I was going to return, but I didn't buy it with prime, so I might as well keep it for the patterns, I can obviously not make clothing for the animals (scarf pictured on cover is cute). animals in the book: tall bird (with striped blue shirt), aofrementioned hippo, fawn (cute, but unnecessary headband), penguin (adorable), husky, duckling (I'd prefer it not on its feet, weird beak), awful looking panda, cute cow (minus the outfit), front cover hedgehog, "standing" fox which will never stand like that on its own, lamb (pretty cute), turtle, kangaroo with its joey in her pocket (not cute but i think it's the thin nose and tiny eyes, so easy fix, with a lame flower on the head), fox (pretty cute, not in love with the extra white wrinkles to the face- I do like the tiny legs vs large tail and head), scary looking reindeer- he looks ill), Maybe they should have stopped with book 2.

About the Author
David B. Levy has been an animation director for six series to date, including Nick Jr.'s Blue's Clues and Cartoon Network's Assy McGee. On his own, Levy has completed six award-winning independent animated films, most recently Owl and Rabbit Play Checkers. His previous short, Good Morning, has been featured in many film festivals, including the Hiroshima International Animation Festival and The New York International Children’s Film Festival. Levy has served as President of ASIFA-East since September 2000. He teaches and lectures regularly at schools such as Parsons School of Design, New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Pratt Institute, and the Rhode Island School of Design. Levy is married and lives in Brooklyn, New York.

An Insider's Look

"Directing Animation" by David Levy is a non-fiction book in which the author talks about...directing animated movies. As a teacher and veteran director of episodes on Adult Swim, Assy McGee, Blue's Clues and more Mr. Levy shares many stories of his personal experience from working as an animator to running the whole show.

The book is divided into logical chapters which build upon one another. After the introduction the reader gets a rundown on what it takes to make an animated movie, the roles involved (animators, stylists, background artists, production assistants, etc.). The following chapters talk about the director's job in either independent films, commercials, TV series, feature films and the Internet. The last chapters deal not only with directing, but management of people as well.

Mr. Levy peppers the book with fascinating, enlightening and mostly funny anecdotes from his experience working in the industry. The author even goes beyond his own experience and quotes industry big wigs such Ralph Bakshi, Don Hertzfeldt, Yvette Kaplan, Xeth Feinberg and others.

As an avid animation fan I really enjoyed this book even though it is not geared towards me.

Most people have no idea the amount of work involved in making an animated clip, even it it's "just" a 30 seconds commercial. Reading on the amazing process of creating animation, even if it's just a short, has always fascinated me to begin with. Reading about the process from an industry expert with a mind to teach rather than just boast, is enlightening to any fan of animation.

"Directing Animation" is easy to read and can be skipped around as necessary if used as a reference book. I, however, read it straight through and enjoyed the technical aspects as much as the personal and pointed stories which tactfully drive the Mr. Levy's point home.

Not just for animation directors

Directing Animation is not just for those who want to direct animation. The information about working with (and for) people can easily be applied to almost any occupation. Anybody that works in a manager type position should read what Mr. Levy has to say.

This is not a boring textbook, but a book filled with lessons learned from firsthand experience. David Levy includes not only his experiences, but knowledge that has been passed on to him by other outstanding people in the animation field. Directing Animation contains numerous stories about David's experiences while working in various phases of animation production.

There is a considerable amount of advice in the book that is geared specifically toward the animation field. Those in the industry will understand what he is talking about, but the animation specific information is not so technical that "outsiders" will feel completely lost. Those outside of the industry will gain a new appreciation as he gives some insight into what goes into making an animated film.

Overall, I found Directing Animation to be not only a well written and informative book, but one that was written by an author with a passion for his work. I would suggest that the reader or potential reader take some time to view some of Mr. Levy's animation work that can be found on the internet.

Same thing over and over

I bought this book hoping it would be a little more in-depth regarding the processes in an animation pipeline, but that wasn't the case. Levy has a humorous tone throughout, but didn't get into the nitty-gritty technicality of animation film or tv making. However he makes a point at building your confidence when managing a team of artists.
