Everything You Need - and Should - Know

I started lessons two years ago as a beginner with an acoustic guitar. I had never previously had any exposure to musical instruments. I get 30 minutes a week with my teacher (who is fabulous) but he throws a lot of information at me and I don't always immediately grasp what he is saying or demonstrating. This book has been a godsend in that it very comprehensive and explains chords, scales, and music theory concepts in an easy to understand manner. The illustrations are clear and extremely helpful. I find that I use the manual constantly to reinforce or clarify my learning and it has - along with a lot of practice! - helped me steadily progress as an aspiring musician. If you are already an accomplished player, you may find this to be redundant of what you know, but for me it has been extremely helpful.

Unterschiede im Ansatz und in der Bewertung von einzelnen Bilanzposten in den verschiedenen
Rechnungslegungssystemen, lassen die Erfolgs- und Ertragslage eines Unternehmens
in unterschiedlichem Licht erscheinen, soda� die Aussagekraft des Jahresabschlusses f�r den
Bilanzadressaten, sofern er nicht mit den jeweils angewandten Bilanzierungsregeln vertraut
ist, nur sehr beschr�nkt ist.
Der bilanziellen Behandlung des Gesch�ftswertes kommt hier besondere Bedeutung zu, da
er in vielen Konzernbilanzen zu den wichtigsten Aktivposten geh�rt und nicht selten einen
gro�en Teil des bilanzierten Eigenkapitals eines Unternehmens ausmacht. So betrug beispielsweise
bei EM TV der Goodwill 1476,30 Mio. Euro bei einem Eigenkapital von 829,80
Mio. Euro, was eine Quote Goodwill/Eigenkapital von 178% ausmacht. Oder im Fall des
Softwareunternehmens Intershop, bei dem ende 1999 der B�rsenwert um 20370% �ber seinem
Buchwert lag. Was bedeutet, da� nur ein halbes Prozent seines Marktwertes durch
Kapital gedeckt war1. Die zahlreich auftretenden Fusions- und Akquisitionsaktivit�ten der
letzten Jahre und der Aufstieg und Fall des Neuen Marktes, haben den Goodwill wieder verst�rkt
ins Bewu�tsein der Manager und Anleger ger�ckt. Durch das immer weitere Auseinanderfallen
von Ertragswert einer Unternehmung und der Summe ihrer Substanzwerte ist
der Goodwill zu einem zentralen Thema bei �bernahmeverhandlungen und der Berichterstattung
dar�ber geworden. So betrug der Gesch�ftswert bei der Fusion von Daimler-
Chrysler zum Beispiel 60 Mrd. DM , bei der �bernahme von Mannesman durch Vodafone
machte er sogar 350 Mrd. DM2 aus.
Da aber der deutsche Gesetzgeber, das International Accounting Standards Committee
(IASC) und das Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) unterschiedlicher Ansicht
sind dar�ber, wie der Goodwill nun in der Bilanz zu behandeln und vor allem zu bewerten
sei, ist es bei einer derart zentralen Gr��e unerl��lich sie im Zusammenhang mit dem jeweilig
angewandten Rechnungslegungsstandard zu betrachten. [...]

About the Author

Dr Christian L. Dunis is a Founding Partner of Acanto Research, where he is responsible for global risk and new products. He is also Emeritus Professor of Banking and Finance at Liverpool John Moores University where he directed the Centre for International Banking, Economics and Finance (CIBEF) from February 1999 through to August 2011. Christian holds a MSc and a Superior Studies Diploma in International Economics, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Paris.

Dr Peter W. Middleton completed his PhD at the University of Liverpool. His working experience is in Asset Management and he has published numerous articles on Financial Forecasting of Commodity spreads and Equity time series.

Dr Andreas Karathanasopoulos studied for his MSc and Phd at Liverpool John Moores University under the supervision of Professor Christian Dunis. His working experience is academic having taught at Ulster University, London Metropolitan University and the University of East London. He is currently Associate Professor at the American University of Beirut and has published over 30 articles and one book in the area of artificial intelligence.

Dr Konstantinos Theofilatos�completed his MSc and PhD in the University of Patras Greece. His research interests include computational intelligence, financial time series forecasting and trading, bioinformatics, data mining and web technologies. He has published 27 publications in scientific peer reviewed journals and over 30 articles in conference proceedings.

Crook is a modern day, progressive Christian and his book is slanted that way. He sounds like he is a member of the Christian Universalism movement and bases very little on God's actual words or commands. There are better books on the ethics that would be more inline with both God and His one and only son.
